Help Toddlers Manage Big Emotions with Visual Calm-Down Charts (Free Starter Page!)

Big emotions can feel overwhelming for toddlers and preschoolers. That’s why I created these Visual Calm-Down Cards– a printable tool designed to help young children recognize and manage their feelings in a simple, supportive way.

🧠 Why This Visual Tool Works So Well

These cards are designed with autistic learners and visual thinkers in mind. Instead of bright, busy graphics, I’ve used soft, soothing pastel colors and clear, uncluttered images. This makes the visuals easier to process and less overwhelming for children who may be sensitive to sensory input.

✨ What Makes This Pack Unique

This printable includes two full sets of calm-down visuals:

  • 12 cards with clear text labels (like “Take deep breaths” or “Squeeze a toy”)

  • 12 matching no-text cards for children who are not yet reading or who benefit from image-only visuals

The no-text version is especially helpful for:

  • Nonverbal or emerging communicators

  • AAC users

  • Younger toddlers

  • Autistic children who prefer simplified visuals

The with-text version supports early literacy and helps adults model calming strategies out loud.

🧩 Flexible Use for Home and Daycare

Each card is 2.5 x 2.5 inches when cut, with faint dotted lines for easy cutting. You can:

  • Use the full page as a calm-down chart in a quiet corner

  • Or cut them out and offer choice cards one at a time

  • Laminate for long-lasting use or hang on a ring

Two printable posters titled "Visual Calm-Down Choices" are hanging on a daycare wall. Each poster shows calming strategy cards for toddlers, featuring autism-friendly colors and simple, clear images with and without text.

This tool works beautifully in:

  • Calm-down corners

  • Daycare and preschool classrooms

  • Therapy spaces

  • At home during tough moments
