Morning Feelings Check-In: A Simple Way to Help Preschoolers Start the Day + Free Printable Feelings Chart

Image
A simple morning feelings check-in can help children start the day feeling seen and understood. Some mornings feel easy. A child walks in smiling, says hello, puts their things away, and starts playing. Other mornings look very different. A child may arrive feeling nervous, tired, sad, excited, shy, angry, or simply unsure of how they feel. Sometimes children know they have a big feeling but do not have the words to explain it. That is why a simple  morning feelings check-in  can become such a helpful part of the day. Instead of starting with lots of questions, you can begin with one simple question: “How do you feel today?” A visual feelings chart gives children an easy way to answer.

20 Classroom Social Stories for Preschool & Kindergarten + FREE Printable

Starting preschool or kindergarten can be a big change for a young child. There are new people, new routines, new sounds, new expectations, and many little moments that happen throughout the day. Something that seems simple to an adult, such as lining up, saying goodbye, waiting for a turn, or asking for help, may not always feel simple to a young child. This is where social stories can be helpful. A short story with simple language and familiar pictures can give children a chance to see what a situation may look like before they experience it. It can also give them words and ideas for what they can do.

First Day of School Tips for Parents, How to Help Your Child Feel Ready, Confident, and Happy

Image
Helping children feel ready, confident, and excited for their first day of school. The first day of school is a big milestone for every family. Whether your child is starting preschool, kindergarten, or their very first classroom experience, it is completely normal to have a mix of excitement and nervousness. Your child may wonder what their teacher will be like, if they will make friends, or what happens if they need help. As a parent, you may be asking yourself, "Is my child ready?" After working as an Early Childhood Educator and home daycare provider for many years, I have learned that school readiness is about much more than learning letters, numbers, or colours. Children feel more successful when they have predictable routines, confidence in everyday skills, opportunities to practise social interactions, and support for managing their emotions. The good news is that you do not need expensive programs or hours of homework to prepare your child. Small, consistent activi...

I Can Make Good Choices Social Story for Toddlers + Free Printable Chart

Image
🌟 Teaching Toddlers to Make Good Choices (Real-Life Tips) If you’ve ever said, “Use gentle hands” or “Wait your turn”… you already know how hard it can be for toddlers to follow through. In my daycare, I see this every day. Children don’t act out because they want to be “bad” — they simply don’t know what to do yet. That’s why I use  simple visuals and social stories  to teach behavior in a clear, calm way. 💛 What “Good Choices” Really Look Like For toddlers, good choices are small, simple actions like: • Sharing a toy with a friend • Waiting while someone else is playing • Using gentle hands instead of hitting • Asking for help instead of grabbing These are skills that need to be  shown, practiced, and repeated daily . ⚠️ Why Toddlers Struggle With Behavior Most toddlers are still learning: • How to express their feelings • How to wait • How to handle frustration So when a child hits or throws a toy, it’s not just “bad behavior” 👉 it’s a skill they haven’t l...
